While she is pretty quiet about her anger around Humans, Sel, a rare fraal-human, has become an outcast in both worlds. It doesn't help that her delinquencies have been well documented, and well publicized.

Appearance: Sel is actually quite attractive, as a result of her mixed species heritage. Some say that in some version of reality, she has a twin that has all of her bad features. She keeps her head shaved, for all sorts of reasons she chooses not to explain, and used to wear whatever the latest fashion was; now, she wears military clothes, and rather likes it.

Attitude: Sel is, and acts like, a prissy girl who had it all, and lost it all, and think’s it is everyone else’s fault but her own. She isn’t angry per-say, but she’s most happy when around people having fun and partying, not in the military conditions she generally finds herself now. That said, she’s always the one to cut lose first, and loves to see her friends and comrades have some fun. In social situations, she’s most comfortable.

Background: It was many years ago now, longer than most humans live, that her parents met. He was a Fraal scientist. She was a human journalist. She interviewed him, and much to both of their surprises, they fell in love. She loved him for his intelligence and rare ability to understand and frequently use dry humor, him for her ability to find out about anyone’s darkest secrets.

Their’s was not a forbidden love, but rare indeed, and doomed. It came to pass, as it always does with such a coupling, that she died, and he lived on.

He could not stand it. They had been denied that which both sought most: A child of their own. And so he isolated himself. He had heard stories that hundreds of years previous, Fraal had experimented with human/fraal gene combinations, creating the ‘Starchildren’. He researched, and experimented, until he found the answer he was looking for. It was something now long since forbidden: He was going to create a child, using his and his partner’s genes. He knew that some would call her a test-tube baby, or a freak, or an abomination, but to him, she would be his ‘Starchild’.

Driven mad by his need for an offspring, Sel’s father used his research, and soon Sel was born. But a new Fraal child was not something that could be easily hidden, and what Sel’s father had done was soon discovered. The Fraal laws did not include imprisonment or death, but they did include exile, and so he was cast out of the Stellar Ring, to what was called ‘The Verge’.

That was not to say that there were not Fraal within the Verge, or that Sel’s life was awful. Far from the truth, in fact, Sel found herself taken from her father, and was raised amongst other Fraals, for a time, at least. The problem was that she aged rapidly compared to Fraal physiology, and as such, also learned rapidly; by the age of 20, she was far ahead of her fellows, something that more than a few resented her for.

So it came to pass that Sel left her Fraal brethren. She was able to find employment quite easily, as the media had never quite forgotten her; quite soon, she was the star of her own reality series. It was not a stellar hit, but it did well enough that she had money, and found herself in the company of an entourage. She soon was living a lifestyle that involved clubbing, and drinking, and in general living a monied life. In addition to her reality series, she also began releasing a series of videos teaching others about self-contemplation and inner peace. After they were moderately successful, she made more that taught others how to discover and master psionics abilities.

It did not last, however. As the long silence began to drag on, planets began taking sides. In an attempt to cash in on the war, Sel’s agent booked her for appearances that were supporting the UPF’s side. She stared in movies that portrayed her as unethical, ignorant of human customs, and power hungry. It was at this time that she released more self-teaching video series, this time to assist with training the UPF’s raw recruits; she mainly used firearms. Around this time, as her outlook on life began to spiral downwards, she took up chem use. Her rash actions were routinely captured on camera, and soon, The UPF stopped supporting her. Sel reacted quite rashly to her critics; finally made away of what she had been endorsing, she vowed to get cleaned up, and join the war-effort against the UPF.

Motivation: Sel’s immediate goal(s) is quite obvious: Stop the UPF. In truth, she’d rather make them look bad and shamed in the public eye, instead of ‘defeating’ them, as she still thinks in the terms of ratings and reviews, and thinks that if public support for the UPF falls, so to will the UPF. Upon deeper examination, Sel’s need to bring down the UPF is an innate desire to prove to herself and society that she is able to provide a service to everyone.

Interests:

  • Sel enjoys learning the truth. It is a recent yearning, and as such, she lacks the ability to learn the truth very well, but does seeks to do so after her time making movies with the UPF to support their cause.
  • Sel also enjoys trying out new things. Her life, up to this point, has been isolated. The Fraal did not allow for outside experiences, her time as a minor celebrity kept her away from the general populace, her time working for the UPF kept her very isolated as many were disgusted by her half-alien nature, and now her time in the GAF military keeps her isolated once more.
  • Sel enjoys popular media. Music, movies, games, the news, if it is the new big thing, she is either doing it, did it, or wants to do it. She generally also discards such things upon finding a new ‘thing’.
  • Although she hates to admit it, Sel does miss her time in the public eye, and as such, maintains a public online journal, which sometimes uses text, sometimes video. However, she submits her entries, whatever they are, through the GAF’s intelligence service, so as not to reveal any sensitive information; as such, her posts do not go online for long periods of time, as they are not considered a priority.
  • Sel practices her psionic powers for at least 1 hour everyday. The subject of psionics is interesting to her, and mentioning psionics almost always peaks her interest.
  • Despite her vocal admonishment of chems, Sel is still a user. She seeks to get high during times of boredom, loneliness, or sadness, and isn’t usually picky about how she achieves it. She tries to keep this addiction hidden, and is not open about her current addictive need.

Vice: Sel regularly questions her own existence: why am I here? What can I do? What does it all mean? Her addiction to chemicals comes out of a desire to silence these thoughts. It is difficult to say which is here larger vice then: Her chem addiction, or her own mind?
